Design Legacy
Why it endures
The design was born from fire: after a factory blaze in the 1930s destroyed all materials except the aluminum stock, Rimowa pivoted to metal. The signature grooves, added in 1950, were directly inspired by the corrugated fuselage of the Junkers F13 aircraft, adding immense structural rigidity to the lightweight shell.
