Design Legacy
Why it endures
Karl Elsener founded Victorinox in 1884 in the Swiss Alps. In 1891, he created the first Swiss Army Knife for the Swiss military. When NASA selected it for space missions in the 1970s, the Swiss Army Knife became a global icon. The Classic SD, introduced in 1981, distilled that heritage into keychain form.
Timelessness
The Swiss Army Knife is one of those rare objects that has transcended function to become symbol. It represents Swiss precision, preparedness, and self-reliance. The design hasn't changed in 40 years because it doesn't need to—it's perfect.
Did You Know?
Every Victorinox knife undergoes over 45 quality checks during assembly. The blades are made from high-carbon stainless steel that's ice-tempered and hardened. Victorinox repairs or replaces any knife, free of charge, if it fails due to a material or workmanship defect—a policy they've honored since 1884.
