Design Legacy
Why it endures
When Tumi decided to create its first aluminum case, Creative Director Victor Sanz wanted to avoid the "industrial container" look. He designed the 19 Degree collection with fluid, sculpted angles that mimic lines found in nature and modern architecture. These ripples act like corrugated metal, adding immense rigidity to the shell.
Timelessness
The metal is designed to patina, turning every scratch from a baggage carousel into a memory. The "X-Brace 45" handle system and silent dual-spinning wheels make it a marvel of haptic engineering—it just feels expensive to roll.
Did You Know?
The specific "19 degree" angle of the ribs was not random; it was meticulously calculated to provide the mathematically optimal ratio of impact absorption to shell rigidity.
